I brought this International 300 home last weekend. Went a little long on it but I had taken the time to drive the 70 miles up there to look it over and was impressed with condition. I wanted this one to be a good runner and it had some of the pricey stuff already done to it so I anted up the guys asking price. Has fast hitch and came with a very nice 2 pt, 2 bottom plow and 2 pt draw bar with hitch receiver welded onto it. Has power steering, TA, IPTO, deluxe seat, remotes and manuals. Came with a notebook of receipted repairs from 2009 including all four new tires, carb rebuild, pricey engine work including a TA rebuild, new seat cushion, backrest, arm rests. Repainted, but not to show quality, still pretty nice. Stored inside most of it's life if not all. Known defects are missing "utility" emblems, one arm rest gone, PTO spins all the time and someone cut a hole in the hood to put in the vertical muffler. Starts right up even on the coldest day. I just need to find a couple of 3 pt conversion arms to fit in the FH and I can hook up just about anything I got here to hook up. Not every day I bring home one this nice, thought I would show it off. :)

Looks like a great find. Don't you just love the guys that hack up the sheet metal to get the wrong muffler or altenator to fit. I'd love to be standing behind them when they get those brilliant ideas. lol Kent

Yessir....forgot to mention that it has power steering! Didn't mention the loaded tires either. I didn't really suspect it under the circumstances. I rented that trailer because I had the bright idea of parking mine a quarter mile off the road and the lane leading there is all mud. They assured me the trailer could hold the tractor, and it did, but the minute those loaded rears hit dead center on the ramps they buckled. Gotta love the beaver tail because I still made it up on the trailer. Rental guy was not speaking to me when I left. I paid the $8 insurance up front so I guess he puts in a claim for the damage. Never would have happened with my ramps.

Every 300U I looked at had the same hole and some also had a square cut out to clear the big ugly alternator they stuck on there. In addition to all the other stuff in the notebook there is a few receipts from an auto electric shop. The tractor has a nice little alternator tucked up under the hood on the right side. Probably paid a little more for it but a classy job compared to a lot I have seen. Can't even see it from the outside. Some day I'll patch up that exhaust hole and put the underslung exhaust on it.

It's nice, I won't lie to you. I took it for a spin when I got it off the trailer. Fired right up after two hours hauling in the wind and sitting over night in the weather. It's a nice drive.

Pan seats are no hardship if you buy a cover, though. I spend a lot of hours on a SMTA each summer. Nice springy seat, let my legs dangle down...watch the swallows catching the bugs the sickle scares up...
Hard to believe I'll be back at it in two months.

I am going to buy one of those or a 350 some day if I can find one. I imagine you exceeded the 7000 lb GVW of that trailer with the loaded tires and the plow though. Nice tractor.

I had one for 15 years. One thing, the original exhaust is underneath. I put a loader on mine, but with no power steering, it wasn't worth much. It would lift a lot tho.

Btw, the guy on CL that advertises as "Dave from Clarkston" bought a 3 pt conversion tong set from me last year. He still might have it. Another source is Aldernans in Lennon, Michigan. I sold my 300U to a guy they knew up there. He was going to part it out, it had a bunch of goodies on it. I have a original toolbox for it, if you are interested. I think I have some literature also.

If you have puking sick on a cloudy day operating a backhoe from underslung exhaust fumes you would be at the head of the line putting a verticle exhaust on it!!!! I put a verticle exhaust on my Dynahoe tlb the next day but did not have to go thru the hood. By the way one of the desingers of the 4010 did not want the exhaust coming thru the hood but wanted it verticle on the outside of the hood. John Deere shot that idea down! Now look where the mufflers are now on all the new tractors! Armand

I know Dave. Bought a FH blade from him last year that I was going to use on the Loboy to plow snow but it keeps stalling on me and I don't have the time in winter to get out there and diagnose it. Has great compression so I am looking at some other possibles. I should give him a yell. He has a lot of jun...er...stuff over there. He'll want a mighty dear price for them though so I might end up waiting for a good set from a motivated seller on ebay. I need to go to Aldermans in the next couple months too so I'll ask them. Grand Blanc might have em but Dave Steiner can be hard to deal with too. Have to wait and see. Don't need em for a couple months so I can shop around!

Dave H. You go right ahead and leave that exhauts alone if you want to. See my above comments about getting pucking sick from from under slung exhaust fumes. Now having said that it is possible to fix that exhaust to be verticle on the outside of the hood. Keep in mind a verticle also will not set your hay field on fire! I have also cut neat holes in the hood of a Farmall 400 just ahead of the gas tank and installed a baffle to prevent the gas tank from boiling when we had a mounted corn picker on that tractor! In my opinion all FARMER MODICATIONS AND UPGRADES if done NEATLY add interest and break the monotony of all the correct tractors and their incorrect fancy paint jobs but EVERYBODY is entitled to their opinions! I dunno. I questioned the rental people six ways from Sunday and they swore coming and going that the trailer was rated at 14K lbs. Not buying it anymore because the ramps were certainly NOT able to handle it. It spent two hours in traffic on that trailer and not a bit of trouble from it OR the '76 Chevy C20 I was pulling it with.

our 300 had under slung exhaust, been there done that, would gag a maggot. IH did that so you could get the loader into a hoghouse or other low building, so long as you ducked yo head :)

I'm going by the 5 bolt wheels, heavier ones have at least 8. There is probably a safety factor built in, but the trailer might give up on someone else. I now have my own trailer, but the owner where I used to rent insisted that I go with a heavier trailer (your dealer doesn't know what he has) when I bought a Super H several years ago, problem was it weighed several hundred pounds more, and I was over weight for my half ton pickup. I bought a 350 row crop a couple of years ago, my 7K trailer was probably about 500 lbs over weight with it's cast wheels but no fluid, my newer half ton had no problems.

Old, no one plows in SW KS anymore, so I have no use for the plow. The 300 you mention would have to have good sheet metal and all the emblems, no one makes emblems for 300's or 350's, steering (preferably power) would have to be good with no loaders used on it. The engine and TA I could take care of. You guys are a little too far away, and I need to finish my Super M and start on the 350 row crop next, so I'm not in a hurry.

I was actually thinking about just making it more "presentable" and keeping it that way too. I have a Loboy that belches fumes out under the seat and it does get to be a little much at times if the breeze is just right. Agree completely on the farmer mods. This tractor and the SMTA both have modifications and I am keeping both. On this one there is an old brass kill switch installed above the battery. Not sure why he had installed that and it would have been a headache with a genny but it doesn't seem to be a problem with the alternator as it is charging loud and clear. Old farmers were a resourceful lot and some of these modifications make good sense.

Nice tractor! My 300U isn't nearly that nice, but she sure is a workhorse for her size. I like her so much that I bought her two big brothers, 350U's. Power steering AND good TA?! One of my 350U has factory power steering, but the TA is out. The other 350U has a good TA but not power steering. The 300U has neither. Keep the exhaust up. I still have the scar where the underslung exhaust on Dad's 2N burnt me when I got stuck getting off it. For that reason, all of my tractors exhausts go up. You can fit a GM alternator under the hood. But it is a very tight fit. Enjoy your tractor!

The more I think about it, the more I like the upright exhaust. When I bought the Loboy I was actually disappointed it did not have that option. I'm thinking I'll just pretty it up a bit and leave it that way. Haven't been on it much yet but I can already tell it is going to take up a lot of slack around here. My favorite part is the dozens of hours I WON'T be putting into working on it! Itching to try out that plow too. I'll have to get a picture of it up here so we can figure out what model it is.

(quoted from post at 16:51:22 02/27/13) I dunno. I questioned the rental people six ways from Sunday and they swore coming and going that the trailer was rated at 14K lbs.

If the trailer in the picture is the one you hauled your tractor with, it's only rated for 7000lbs at best.

A 14K lbs rated trailer will have 8 bolts per wheel. This one only has 5 bolts per wheel, meaning the axles are rated for 3500lbs each at most.

Ya understand the plowing thing. SW KS any where near Winfield KS I lived there many many years ago.
As for the emblems not sure if they are all there or not and no power steering and that is why he is thinking about selling it

Winfield is in south central KS, much different than SW KS mainly because Winfield gets at least twice the ppt that we get. Drought is bad here, about 22-24 inches total for 2011-2012.
