Brakes on a Farmall B

I need to redo the brakes on my Farmall B. Very little brakes in reverse and not a lot better going forward. How big a job and what do I need to watch out for? I suppose changing all the rear seals is also in order. Makes sense to me to do one side at a time. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks----

Have a cherry picker or an extra hand available to take those final drives off. They are awkward. Obviously as you stated, replace seals if questionable. Make sure you buy "good" replacement bands, there are a few different makers. Also a good time to change the oil and gaskets on bottoms of final drives. Block tractor well and be careful.

I was able to get my final drive off and back on using a large floor jack but it may be a little risky for some. A chain hoist would work very well if you have one. Otherwise you might use a cable come-a-long. Be careful removing the bolts. They are old and may be brittle. I broke one off using an impact wrench. I am very careful where I use an impact wrench now. I would change the rear axel seals. The left side is up against the transmission rear end housing. Getting the final drive and axel back on with the new break band is a little tricky but not impossible. You might have to turn the hub to align the splines.
