Farmall m gasket or silicone

I have the rear end of my m tore down right now. When I put everything back together should I use gaskets or just silicone? Axle bearing end caps, pto, belt pulley, and trans cover. Also if I don't use a gasket for the trans cover will it mess up the meshing of shift forks or anything?

Silicone will be just fine. I don't like the blue RTV Permatex, I much prefer the black stuff. Follow the directions on the tube, and don't tighten the bolts until the stuff has dried a little. No, lack of a gasket on the top cover will not mess up the shifting fork engagement.

I use gaskets when they are available. The cover gasket kind of sucks, but I would buy the other ones.

Call me old fashioned BUT i use org. gskt. and if i can not get the gskt. I MAKE IT . If it calls for no gskt. and non are available and a sealant was used then i will use the Dr. Blue or Dr. Black stuff . BUT NEVER in and engine or around Hyd.

I used the black rtv on my 47 h followed the label but it leaked around the belt bully and along the sides, also noticed that the forks seemed to bind. They were never a problem before removing the cover and using rtv,I have since used the oem gasket and everything seems to be fine. I know of other people that used rtv and never had any problems may just be dependent on the wear of the forks. Just my 2 cents jim.
