E4A mag revisited

Thanks for all of the advice that came in from my post a couple of days ago. I'm going to dress the points up properly tomorrow and see it that helps the weak spark. I downloaded a few pages from an origional IH mag service manual so now I'm armed and dangerous. Probably more dangerous than armed. LOL

Now I have a question. Did all Regulars come out with the E4A mag? When did the F4 come in? From what I understand the E4A wasn't the most reliable mag in the world and the F4 was a direct replacement from IH. I do have a rusty old F4 sitting on the bench that I haven't dug into yet so if this E4A looks like it'll be too spendy I might give the F4 a whirl. The correct police purist in me tells me to fix the E4A no matter what. The practical side of me tells me to look into the F4 and forget the E4A. Jim

The first Regulars used a Splitdorf Dixie model 46C magneto up until March of 1927. Then they switched to the E4A. Robert Bosch ZU4 and FU4 were offered as an option. International never put the F4 mag on the Regular at the factory, but they can be installed.

Send that mag to Kirk......... it will save you lots of frustration. I know from first hand experience

When all things are "right" in an E4A, it will throw an tremendous spark. When right, they are a great magneto. Service is the issue with them.
