Super WD9 puller conversion

I have a super WD9 that I'm considering modifying for a puller. Also have a Cadillac 400 engine doing nothing. I've never been around anyone converting a tractor so don't know a thing about doing this. I do have small machine shop so maybe can mill some stuff with guidance. Should I do it or forget it?

Sell it to somebody who wants it and buy a tractor better suited. You will not be able to pull your tractor with the wrong motor many places around here. The antique guys will never let you pull it. You might get away with it at a farm pull if you don't get caught.

Been several 9 series retro fitted with v-8 Engines. There are 2 9 series and a oliver that pull together in a special class in the local pulling group.

I would do it just for fun, if I had a w6 with a bad engine that is where my usles 302 would go with a ring and pinion out of an m to raise the rpm's at speed :)

How about this, Its a M that was headed for china and a good friend and i saved it, got a 7.3L IDI diesel outta a ford truck and stuffed it in the tractor. Was a boat load of work but it turned out really good.

Thanks for the replies! I would plan on runing it as a modified or just for show/fun. There are a lot of modifieds in the Billings-Sheridan area, some runing up to 5 engines on fuel---beyond my budget but there are some small mods as well. I"m looking for ideason how to go about stuffing it in and the geometry of hooking up the clutch system, type of clutch etc.

A fellow here put a 549 gas I.H. engine in a W-9. Had to cut the starter housing hole in and did a perfect job. We have a transplant class where three or four units with V-8's run together. Lots of power and speed but we can stop them with our sled.

It wouldn't be too hard to install it. The high price comes from making the adapter plate from the caddy motor/ bell housing to the existing tranny bell housing. A good friend that just happens to have a machine shop in his garage would come in very handy. Fabricating everything you will need will be on a trial & error basis, but it certainly can be done.
