12 volt conversion with 4 position light switch

I'm switching my farmall m from 6 volts to 12. The old system had a curout relay .Can I use the old 4 position light switch when I convert it to 12 volts? What wires go where on the back of the light switch? I have a one wire alt and I have the wire hooked to + side of ammeter and a wire from there down to starter switch. My ammeter still reads discharge. I have a wire from neg post on ammeter to the light switch and a wire from there to the kill switch.

I don't know about an M but on my 300u there was a little resistor behind the switch that was in series with the lights. The 12 v made the resistor smoke and I just removed it. The lights look the same on the "dim" position as they do on the high beam position.

I would think they go to the same places the 6 volt did, but here's another thing that's kinda hard to explain.. the back of the switch itself turned relative to the front, so when it should have been off it was not. You might want to look out for that.

Yes you can. The generator was controlled by a ground through the switch. Disconnecting the switch from the F terminal will allow it to be used in the D and B positions for lights. If the new bulbs, (or LED bulbs) are equal to the original in watts, (not brightness) the dim/bright function will be just fine. Jim

Just curious what you mean by "disconnecting the switch from the F terminal". I don't have any wires connected to the F Terminal at all and my resistor still smokes.

Thanks...
