ih 784 light switch

Need some help with troubleshooting the headlight switch on the ih 784. not getting any power to the blue w/red wire that appears to go to the headlights. don"t want to waste 60 on a switch until i know this one is bad. switch has 6 poles arranged like a pyramid, need to know what pole goes to what lights. thanks guys
 
Dean,
You should check ALL your fuses first to see if they are good. The purple wire that routes from position #5 in the fuse box provides power to the Light Switch. Here is what my manual shows for the 784 model with flat top fenders, starting with position B1 (on the Light Switch) and continuing clockwise around to all six (6) positions:
(1).B1 - green wire routes to and is connected to a Dark Green wire which then routes to position #3 in the Fuse Box.
(2). Blue/White wire terminal routes to Rear Light and Right Front Work Light.
(3). B2 - Purple wire routes to #5 position in Fuse Box.
(4). Red wire routes to Rear Light
(5). Red/Green wire routes to position #1 on Flasher unit.
(6). Red/Blue wire routes to Instrument Panel (tach, speedo, L & R. panel lights) and left & right Headlights.
 
thanks for the info. all fuses good. no continuity thru switch to the post where the blue/red wire is for the headlights.
Any idea what the large purple wire is that goes the front nose area with the light wiring? mine is not hooked up.

Be sure to check the grounds, IIRC the front lights are grounded by a single wire by the head lights. The rear lights are grounded by a single wire that is lugged to a bolt at back of seat that holds the deck plate on.

Dean,

In the wiring diagram, the horn circuit is fed by a Purple/Green wire from the #1 Fuse Box position to the horn button. Out of the horn button to the horn, the wire color is Purple/Black.
