axle countershaft felt seals on a regular

Been fruitlessly searching the net this eve trying to find the felt seals on the outboard ends of the rear axle countershafts on a Regular and also the felt seals for the brakes. Tried a half dozen sites including Fordson House and Rice and nothing came up. Ebay had about every felt seal but the ones I want. In the YT archives I found an interesting blog about this but no source for the felts was mentioned. One blogger did mention replacing the felts with modern lip seals. Does anyone know where felts can be found? Anyone try lip seals? Thanks, Jim

I bought my felt from McMaster Carr:

You can get them in sheets, sandwich them between two pieces of luan and rip them on a bandsaw. Then, when you put them in the pocket, cut the ends on a 45 degree and splice them with the splice at the top. I usually oil the felts up well before I put the shaft in. Good Luck!

When I rebuilt my Regular, I just reused the old felts. They were in good enough condition, I just soaked them in my parts cleaner and then blew them dry with compressed air.

These felts don't look all that bad and the countershaft ones could be re-used. Far as I can tell all they do is keep the tranny-rear end oil out of the final drive. The brake seals are another story. Brakes were wet so I do need something to seal them up. The lip seal idea sounds workable if the shaft surface is smooth enough. Jim

Try Alderson Tractor (641) 624-2275. I have lip seal replacements in my F series tractors so they do exist, and (I think) I got them from Alderson.
It's been a few years ago.

Thanks, Bruce. The lip seal idea sounds interesting to me. I might give them a call. I've been to Alderson's twice. I had ordered some other parts from Rice Equip (yes, I tried YT first) and a fella from Rice called today with a question about one of the parts so I asked him if he had the felts and he said he did. They will be shipped tomorrow. I'm not too worried about the felts in the axle housing itself because they just keep the differential oil and final drive oil from mixing and that's not going to happen much with this tractor. The brakes are a different story. Jim
