Shared friendship with an animal is an extraordinarily fine and rewarding connection. Their passing is always tough. Remembering their unique smile is sure to cause it to reflect on your face. Jim

Our long-haired Chihuahua Rascal was our best friend; even when we weren't getting along, he helped us talk to one another the first year we were married. We lost him two days before Christmas in 2010, and we grieved for a very long time. But we'll never forget him, and we did get another Chihuahua, Rowdy, who, though different, does a lot of the same wondrous things for us. Dogs can convey love in ways that humans rarely can. They are truly our best friends! Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family, Hugh and Kelley

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Dogs can become a really important part of our lives and losing one is truely like losing one of our best friends or a part of the family.

Sorry to hear about your loss. We had that happen in 2010 when our Chow Taz was diagnosed with cancer. When we received the news we bought another Chow pup Sugarbear she's almost 3 now. We had Taz cremated. Hal

Man that is rough. I went through it about 6 mths back. Remember the good times. Heck I still see my old dog laying by feet. You never forget them. After a while you will find another when you are up to it.

Here is the old one.

I've been through that twice. Best thing to do is get another dog, particularly if you had only one as my wife and I did. At first the new dog will be sort of a poor replacement for the old, but that will change. My present Australian Shepherd is nearly 8 years old, can live until around 15. I do not look forward to that day.

Looks like a Shih-Tzu?....we lost one a few years ago, and have another one now. They are great companions. Took a while to finally decide we wanted this one after losing the first, but now we are just as attached to her. Can't look at it as if you are replacing them, as you really aren't, but as CNKS said, getting another is the best thing to do. Dogs need us as much as we do them (I think). We now have two other dogs, both were dropped off at or near our place, and we took them in. The latest we will probably get spayed, and get her used to be around people again (pretty sure she was abused then dumped), and try to find her a good home. She is most if not all Spitz (almost pure white), and a pretty dog, and will make someone a good companion......but we will see how it goes.

Lost my adopted girl Brandi Lynn to cancer back in oct, hardest grave I"ve ever had to dig. Got another one now, love her to death, but its still hard to take the same walk with her as me and Brandi did.

Thanks everyone and sorry about yall's losses to. As to get another dog I don't think I will just so I don't have to go through that again... and the next one wont be like chole so I don't think ill get another..

You say that now, but I'm betting before long you will change your mind. Yes, it hurts, and you should not expect the next one will be the same, but the next one will have it's own personality that you will learn to love in the same way. And it will hurt when it passes, but that's the way life and death is.... you just keep going, and you need "friends" like that to help.
