Far as differet size springs that is very common to aquire a particuar advance curve. Like Vet says, good luck with bushing etc. IH does finally have a bushing available for the older four cyl IH distributor. Never did in the 40 years I worked at a dealer but do now. I put one in a couple years ago on a 400. You can always alter a distributor from a 706 if you have the moxy to do so. Increase the advance from 22 , or 25 , depending on age of 706 and make it into a 30 degree for a 560 if that is the model you have. Fortunatly, the busings , weights and pivot pins don't usually wear out as bad on those six bangers as they do on the four cyl engines. [Reply]  [No Email]

I"ll see what i can pick up salvage. u are rite, it is a 560. i pulled the dist out of my 656 and stuck in just to verify problem and it runs better than ever. When pulling it apart i found two different size springs, making me think someone has cobbeled it. I have taken the dist. off a 656 that i am currently restoring bumper to bumper, droped it in the 560 and it runs better than ever before so i don't know what to think about the misfit idea... There are lots of 560's laying around this country so maybe that would be the best option. I would like to find a darn good manual that has more detail than most on the market. [Reply]  [No Email]

And if you think i'll just go get a good used one now you need to do your home work as they might all LOOK the same and they will ALL fit BUT that is where it ends. They do NOT all have the same centrifugal advance cure . SO if it is out of say a 560 then you must get one FROM a 560 , if it is out of a 706 then you must get one from a 706 and so on. If it is a Delco I think that parts are fairly easy to find; any good old fashioned auto electric service could sell you the parts, again, if it is made by Delco--I have had Fletcher's Auto Electric in Shreveport, LA, do practically everything electrical in the C-281 in my 450.
