H steering BAD!!

the steering wobble on my H is horrible, I removed the cover off the top of the steering gear and the play in the verticle shaft is horrible, I have found new shafts but cannot seem to find any info on bushings or bearings, any of the experts out there have any info to share?

Bushings and bearings are sold by CaseIH, bearings can be bought cheaper at other businesses, but get the lower thrust bearing from CaseIH because the aftermarket one I bought was different, I took it back. You need a parts manual, or at least look at the diagrams in the parts section on www.caseih.com. I replaced every thing in my SM except the shaft and gears, which look ok to me.

There are Hundreds of posts in the archives (search for)CNKS is correct. Putting in Steering Wobble, or bolster repair, or Worm Gear, or Sector and the how to will be there. Every search can look at the wrong thing, so a bit of sifting is needed. Jim

OK I tried looking at a manual in the caseih website and I do not see anything for letter series tractors, anyone have a link??

Reasonably priced bolster shaft bushings and gearbox seals are available from Carter & Gruenewald. (I'm not in any way associated with C&G - just a satisfied customer...)

While you've got everything apart check for worn worm shaft bearing/bushing, worn gears, sloppy steering shaft U-joint bushings, etc. and replace as necessary.

plan to replace all shafts, bearings and bushings. I have had mine apart 3 times piecing away at it. This site, C&G and Steiners should have the parts.

As you"re doing this, make sure you have good seals in, end seal and bottom seal of the housing, or plan on replacing them. Not expensive, CaseIH has them, and you have to rig up a puller and pull them in. Then get the grease / oil put in there.

you have to use the search function to find the tractor. put in "farmall H"

Kit costs $160.00, everything you need to replace on the front bolster.
Check the front wheel bearings also.

I put the kit in my 55 F300, no more wobble, and I can turn it post to post with just the spinner.
I did replace the upper steering shaft bearing,
the very bottom upper bolster bearing (cha-ching)
both u-joints, and wheel bearings also.
The kit is the bushings & seals for the upper bolster shaft.
