856 pto

I have a 856 that has issues with the PTO. The PTO will disengage when going down a hill and re-engage when the tractor levels out or heads uo the next hill. Any idea what would cause this? how to fix it?

Make sure the trans. & rear end are full of hytran. Could also have a leak on the pto suction tube seal.

Another possibility is that some where along the line the suction tube was changed, possibly entire pto unit changed. Early 7 and 806 pto's has a screen on outside of buttom end of suction tube. The tube did not go down to the end of the screen. All later ones including your 856 have the screen on inside of tube. Even a slight drop of front end on those old ones would cause pto problems.

Check oil in transmission. Make sure it is full. I put about 5 gallons of oil extra in transmission and It solves some hydralic problems too.

The first thing to check is the Hy-Tran level.

This is one case where checking the oil level is a useful diagnostic.
