Injection pump inspection cover gasket

would I be safe using gasket paper for an inspection cover gaset on my B-275. I need the gasket and it appears it is no longer available.

How do you decide how thick of material to use?

Same thickness as the old one.

How do you know what that is? For starters it has been compressed between two pieces of metal for 50+ years. Also, they are designed to be crushed so they will never hold their thickness to measure them properly.

if its not required to be used as a shim them it dont matter, thick or thin as long as it does the job. but you still have a good idea from looking at the old one, what thickness to use.

Thanks! I was told to use silicone or RTV but I felt that gasket paper would be a much better option.
