Farmall B Starter

I just bought a 1946 Farmall B. It is a good running old tractor but the previous owner started it by pushing in the starter solenoid by hand. I would love to see a picture of a "46 B starter setup. It would be nice to start it from the seat.

Also the original seat was replaced by one off some kind of old planter. Sure would like to find an original one.

An original B starter would be a short rod that you push with your foot to engage it.

I'll try to get a picture of mine and post it, it is original.

The starter should have a mechanical (saddle) switch on the top side of the motor. It is just a heavy current momentary contact switch. Normally there is a actuating rod from the platform to the switch to make contact. Seats are often found on Ebay. Putting an ad in the classifieds (to the left also works wonders. Seats can be reupholstered in reproduction cloth to be very original.
Go to caseih.com Select your country, select parts at the top menu bar, scroll down to find the case IH parts store.
select find parts by model, then a second find by model button in the center of the page, then select the icon with the small magnifying glass , which is next to the browse button. then put in Farmall. neither an A nor a B have illustrations of the switch and rod, but there is one for a C Farmall, so select C. Then select electrical System. There will be a image of the Rod controlled starter. Some are pull rods like that one, some are push rods. If your saddle switch is push, it will need 1/4 inch rod to make it. if pull, 3/16 rod will work. You might find one on line as well. Best of luck, Jim

I bet what you call a solenoid is in fact a saddle switch that sits on the starter right?? If yes I may have the starter rod laying around here some place that I could let go of. Sorry I do not have an extra seat frame but the parts B I have has an after market seat on it

Is the sw at the front or the rear of the starter. It should be at the front and a rod going to push with your foot to start. I have seat parts original.

I went out to the shed and got a couple pictures of the starter set up on my 1940 Farmall B.

Jim Becker or Gene Bender can verify whether it is the factory stock set up or not.

As far as I know, this is how they came from the factory.
