Something (like worn thrust bushing, or the main governor bushing in the distributor drive end), is jamming the output to the rock shaft (output shaft to the left side of the engine) can you wiggle the gear shaft up and down easily? Jim |

Yes it wiggles up and down. When I pulled the gear out and reached in the distribtor drive will move a little but not much. Any ideas on how to get the shaft bumber and spring out? By the way thanks a bunch for all the help.

If the shaft end wiggles up and down more than 1/16" I would replace the main bearing. The Bumper spring assembly might be easiest to remove when it is out of the tractor. Then (as far as I can see, it will require some solvent, and careful manipulation to get it free. jim

Do you have a part number for the main bearing? I don't see it in my parts book. Funny thing is this problem happened after the tractor had set for a month or two. Everything was fine when I shut it down. Its kind of like a catastrophe failure versus a worn bearing. Would it make sense that the fact that the shaft bumper will not extend could allow the pinion and everying thing attached to slide forword causing my problem???

It could, (I wish I was there) That bearing might be in the front cover illustration. It is troublesome in many high hour tractors and replaced, I do believe it is available. I would sure get the bumper operational first, to see if that is the issue. Jim
