Need info on 450 hydraulic regulator/safety valve block

Working on a 400 that is having trouble keeping the hydraulic system primed. It works, then you shut it down for an hour, go to try it and nothing.

Anyway this tractor has the IH power steering setup, but I don't think it orginaly came with it. The block containing the regulator and flow divider is a different shade of paint. Also, the way the regulator is put together is not like what is shown in my IH manual for the 400 so I'm thinking it's a slightly later version from a 450.

Would like to see if someone has a diagram or photos showing the pressure regulator parts and the flow divider for the power steering.

I've got an LP 450 with the factory power steering. If I can get my wife to send it, I'll take a pic on her electronic camera and email it to you or this website. Do you just need a photo of what the priority flow divider looks like, installed? I don't mind taking it off if that's what you need, I'm probably going to have to replace mine anyway when I get the torque motor back from Steel Wheel Ranch. Let me know. 318-465-0797 or 318-287-3201. Hugh

A photo would work, showing the parts as if they are in an exploded diagram. I'm mainly interested in the main hydraulic pressure regulator valve as that's what seems to be a little different. The main safety valve is the same as in the book. A photo of the flow divider would help make sure I have the right one.

Part of the problem with this one on the flow divider is that the bore is worn and I think the valve keeps sticking. I've taken and smoothed the valve and removed the sharp edges and that seems to be helping.

Search for Messicks farm equipment, find case IH, Search model, click on hydraulics, click on # 377. May want to check the gasket between resevoir and the post supporting the valves or the suction line or suction line joints for a small leak on the pump prime problem.

Thanks for the tip. I have heard of Messicks but was not aware of the parts database. That diagram was what I was looking for. I'll pull the regulator assembly all the way out, something's not quite right.

The reservoir to post gasket is intact and you can tell somebody's "been in there" but I did find the back two bolts were not very tight. I did take the opportunity to completely clean out the reservoir. I think there's several small factors affecting this thing.

If the system is loosing prime, then I would be checking the metal lines that run from the pump up to the reservoir and their respective orings. The suction side is getting air in somehow or the reservoir pick up screen is plugged ( inside the reservoir) or dirty, or possibly the reservoir is low on fluid.
