1466 oil pressure

If my 1466 sits for a few days it won't pick up oil pressure. I can remove the filters and pour some oil in the filter base and it will immediately pick up pressure and run 60 to 65psi all day pulling an 18ft disc. the front crank seal is leaking fairly heavily, is it possible that its allowing air to get into the pump and causing the pump to loose its prime? I'm going to replace the pump and seal, any other suggestions? Also, the tractor is a 1971 model and has a multicolored tach, is this correct or did someone swap tachs that showed lower hours, I bought it used a couple of years ago.

I think you are on the right track with replacing seal and possibly pump. Those pumps do wear out and the splines driving pump get bad also. The pump does not drive off all splines at same time so you can usually find splines that are not worn to install inner rotor on. If you need to replace the splined sleeve, you crack it with a chisel while supporting shaft. Heat new one in oven and install really quick.

Maybe I am wrong on oil filters but can you have the wrong filters that are not anti drain back type. When I put spin on filter on my 560 I had to get a anti drain back filter because it sits up side down.

After the problem started I switched to Wix filters and later found they do not have antidrainback valves and I replaced them with
fleetguard filters from IH dealer still had same problem. Thanks for suggestion

Thanks for the info, will replace pump and seal and see what happens. Any thoughts on tach. The tach looks like the one on my 706.

I think the early ones came with the multicolor tachometer like a 56 series.

They changed to the black-and-white tachs with the knob later on. 1975 maybe? I've seen white stripe 66 series with the black-and-white tach before. All black stripes had them for sure.

as far as I know:

early 06 series had black face, white letters, no speeds. sometime probably very end of '64 or early '65 they switched to the rainbow type with black background.

56 series used rainbow face with white background.

66 and 86 series used the type with the knob in the middle to change the speeds according to your gear.
