I purchased this tractor as a parts tractor because it was advertised as a "dimanteled W4." While loading it I noticed the different pistons and the second gas tank. Are these tractors common or should this one be restored and I look for another parts one?

What kind of parts do you need? Engine parts for Hs and 4s are "all" the same. I think there are 3 different parts total.
All W-4s are restorable compared to 6s and 9s.

they are as common as anything with around 34,000 built. nothing rare about them. the early ones will have the distillate tank just like the early w-6's do. about 10,000 more 6 models than the 4 models.

I agree, I'm just saying that W-4s seem to be more valuable than the big ones especially here in Wisconsin. What I was really trying to say is why knock a 4 in the head for motor parts. The motor parts are a dime a dozen just about anywhere. Heck, most are available brand new. Maybe W-4s are like Hs here in Wisconsin when you get up in Canada.

ya, pretty much. farmalls are not a common thing here. the m is more plentyful than the h, as they are around but not seen as often.

I think I am going to fill a trailer up with Hs and Ms and then just trade you guys for 4s and 6s.

Thinking Jim was saying the distillate and kerosene tractors were probably more common in the year 1944 than a gasoline.

(quoted from post at 07:43:42 01/23/13) Let me know when you do, Ive got some to take up
there!!! Most of the sheet metal on my I-4 came from
Canada!

A local guy bought 4 9s, 600, 650s down in Texas and then sold them up here. I guess he made out pretty good on the trip even after all his expenses. Like buy 4 get 2 free after he sold a couple.

I need the block. This was the closest unit i have come across. I am still looking for a block so the 44 is not on death row yet

I have one in WI. I will trade you.
