c123 broke a piece of my pulley the size of half a quarter top of belt grove. Will this cause problems if I use it?

Run it.The 'notch' may cause some premature belt wear.Smooth the notch a little to minimize the damage.Next question:How did it break?

Maybe yes maybe no hard to be sure. I have seen many that worked just fine and then the next one cut the belt or throw the belt in 15 minutes. Try it and go from there or replace it and be 100% sure. Me I would try it and if it did not work then replace it

replacing oil seal, used bearing splitter got the pulley half way off ran out of threads on puller, reset puller on pulley thougt it was loose enough without using bearing splitter, big mistake!!! no balance issue? thanks for help. Tuck

These engines are low RPM as in under 2000 so most of the time no big deal. Ya if it was spinning up say 3500 plus could be but unless your running it as super puller and have it spinning way up there it will be fine

If you do find you need to replace the pulley let me know I think I have a good one if I can pull it that is off an engine I have out in the shop from a B or A.

Do not feel to bad. I have 2 or 3 of those pulleys out in the shop with pieces broke out of them from trying to pull them off. Years ago I made a pulling plate out of 1/2 inch plate that has 2 pieces to it both cut with a U shape and those pieces bolt together so I can then use a gear puller on the plates

The big question is: Is it just a small piece, or is the pulley cracked elsewhere ?

Hang the pulley by itself from a wire. Strike it with the handle of a plastic screw driver, and listen.

If there is a slight solid ring to it, you're OK. If it has a definite "tuck" sound, there probably is a crack elsewhere.

Use caution using a cracked pulley.
