My tractor partner in crime Travis (Niece's husband) heard about an H sitting out in the woods about 5 miles from his house. The friend came across it when he was looking for a bull that got out. He talked to the owner about his lost bull and briefly about the tractor. Sam said to go talk to the old guy and he might give it to us for a little of nothing. Well, Travis got to go look at it today and the man asked $200 for it! Done deal. It hasn't been run for 6-7 years. Was parked at the edge of the field because a wheel bearing in the front went out and he didn't take the time to mess with it. Hopefully it isn't stuck but who knows. Has a good muffler and a rain flapper so cross my fingers. Have to cut a few saplings out of the way and drop the brush hog. Hopefully the other three tires all come up. One rear is still partially up. Lots of ifs but for $200 I'll take the chance. Doesn't look too beat up. Can't wait to get our hands on her! Anyone want to take a guess on the year? I am ALSO saying FIRST pull all plugs,take air blow out cylinders and add lube(oil,kero,ect)and let it soak BEFORE trying to just start cranking it over! That lube will make it into the oil pan,so be sure and change out the oil a few times.;) [Reply]  [No Email]

Have to see how wide the rears are set on Sunday. I forgot about pulling the starter to move the ring gear. We'll give it a shot. Yes we have a shop to work in thankfully. rhtx55 01-10-2013 18:46:04 68.185.207.25 Report to Moderator	Re: The collection has started... in reply to Matt E., 01-10-2013 16:39:14   Pull the plugs, pull the starter and see if you can use the flywheel teeth and a good prybar type large screwdriver to turn it either or both ways, if it moves you are in luck. You might get it to start..... fresh gas, clean plugs and a fully charged battery. If not, then I would squirt quite a bit of kerosene in each cylinder, wait a few days, then try to move the flywheel again, and so on and so on. Kerosene is good at breaking down rust, and freeing up stuck rings ( to a point). But you have to consider the rods, mains, and valve train also, rust in those places are hard to get to until you get it home, a fencerow is not very handy place to remove much more. If you can't get it to move at all with the prybar, best to put the plugs & starter back in and plan on winching it up on the trailer, get it home, and hopefully in the shop, and start the above process from there. The guy said it was a good tractor and ran well. I just hope it isn't stuck badly. Suggestions prior to trying to turn it over? Pull each plug and squirt some ATF in each hole to soak for a while? Its in a lot better shape than the B we paid $300 for and that one was stuck. Had to replace the manifold but with a set of rod bearings and a head job we got that one running as well. Going to put a new set of front tires on that one this weekend too. [Reply]  [No Email]
