SUPER A Positive or Negative Ground?

I have recently inherited a Super A. It had an 8 volt battery hooked up negative ground. I bought a new Six volt and hooked it up the same way. But I am wondering if it is right, the amp gauge does not move when the tractor is running. Is there any way to tell if it is supposed to be positive or negative ground? Thanks in advance.

Whrn they changed the ground to neg they fried the regulator. With the engine running ground the field if that makes it charge the reg is bad. Make sure when you get a new regulator you have the Delco Remy # on the gen so you get the correct one and it will be marked "pos gnd" lots of aftermarket regs out there they think one size fits all and thats why many will not work. Your gen # should be 1100501 or 1100531 if its original. Its a different reg than gens marked 1101355,423.
