Is a Farmall LP worth buying?

Hey guys, I really like the look of the LP farmalls and I like the idea that they burn cleaner and the engines are usually in good shape.

My question, if I were to find one (I dont care about the model, just want an LP) are parts difficult to find and how do they perform/worth the money? thanks, Anthony

only different parts would be proprane fittings regulator . regulator on only thing that might be not normal but they are availabile

ive got 3 of them and i love em. never sputter or cough when its cold out they just start right up.

i have a 500 gallon tank with a trnasfer hose and fill em right up in about 3-4 minutes

LP's are more common in southern areas ive found. few scattered around up north. seems there are tons of them in texas and oklahoma

My dad, uncle and I had several propane tractors. I had a factory 706 LP, dad had a factory SM LP and a 400 he converted. When he converted the 400 to lp gas, the LP gas was 9 cents per gallon and then the gas went up to 11 cents per gallon. My uncle had a 350 utility LP, a 560 LP which I now own (but was converted back to gasoline before I bought it) and an factory 806 LP. He also had a John Deere 4020 LP and a 5 Star Minneapolis Moline LP.

I've got a Super M on LP. It sets a lot until fall when we use it to take the corn and draper heads in and out of the shed on carts. It always starts right up and you don't have to worry about varnish in the fuel tank or carburetor.

Big Tone;;; Found, Traded for, and Drug out of Abandonment after the owner died (4 yrs) A super rare.... 656 LP. Got it back in the Spring. Spent the summer tinkering with it fixing the broken and neglected items. On a 30* day a week ago, I busted it off,,, Just pulled out the Choke, and 5 revs later it was running! Just a little Sweetheart of a tractor..
What do you think you are looking for?? Anything in particular?

going to be dragging a 706 lp out of a barn in the next year and going thru it to get it ready to sell for a man may be awhile before i get to it i got to get his '57 chevy 2 ton going first, tractor looks decent but thats in the corner of a barn, ill see what it looks like when i get it out

I had a Farmall 400 LP for 7-8 years. The oil always looked like it was changed yesterday. Had a bit more power than a gas or diesel. It is a bit of pain to fill up the tank on the tractor (need a wet line and a propane tank). You are not going to take a five gallon can of gas to the field to fill it when it runs out, so watch the fuel gauge. I had mine when I lived in Texas. I think they probably start better in warmer weather. They also stick a bit easier because they run so clean. I got mine cheap because it had stuck from sitting over the winter. It was real easy to unstick it. You do have to be careful around the propane. When you empty the wet line to take pressure off it, you shoot some propane out. Also, propane sure seemed to attract the flies when I was filling the tractor. I only sold the tractor because I moved. It was a good old workhorse.

Im not going to be real picky, I live in upstate Ny so ill take what I can find. I have an M, MTA...I want a Super A, Super C, and 450 (all gassers) so Ill be looking for an H, 350, or 400.

BT, As you know Ms and Hs didn't come from the factory LP equip-ed! They were Field-converted at the local farm-stead by that farmer or there were certified IH mechanics that came to the farm and converted that tractor and in some instances had IH approval to re-stamp the tag!
You can do an H conversion there at your farm. The problem is finding a tank that was used on an H or 300 The carb and regulator set up from a a 300 is your best bet.
Being in Up State NY there are just not that many LP tractors around. Where in In Texas/Okla and the Deep South they littered the land scape at one time. It takes a little more time and effort to find one, they are still out there, Just a little mopre difficult to locate, and a little more bird dogging in necessary.
SM-LPs both Stage I & II I can put my hands on today.
300LPs still fairly easy to find. 350LPs one very elusive tractor less made of that than the SMTAs
400/450s can be found too.
Put your nose down and keep looking.
Build an LP H would be fun and challenging. But you need one factory LP tractor in house first to give you a visual reference for your build!
Hope this helps

John A.

I have several LPs that are really just hobby/play toys. They are easier to work on, i.e. no stale/bad gas & clean burning. I bought them to have all three fuel variations of the models I already have. You just need to be careful like any others when filling with fuel. Case 400LP, 730LP, IH 400LP, 560LP, 706LP & JD 730LP

I have a 450 LP from our place in Tx. It needs a lot of work, but isn't stuck and is a straight old tractor. I was going to restore it , but haven't.
It is for sale.
