I bought a Farmall C the other day and it runs great good little tractor, but I noticed it has no hydraulics, that's O. K. but it doesn't ever have a plate covering where the hydraulics should have been on the right side below the dist. . Is this an A engine or something else? How can I find out what engine this is? Thanks

No plate as in an open hole, or no plate as in there isn't even a place for one?

The A, B, C, and Super versions of these tractors all had engines with the same mounting dimensions. You could bolt any combination together to make a "Frankentractor."

Either you have a misidentified Farmall B, or you have a Frankentractor built from parts.

Can you post a picture?

Mark, hmmm, picture would help, but, does this "C" have wheels that slide on the axel for rear tread adjustment? Does it have the hydraulic unit under the rear of the gas tank on top of the torque tube? Is the operator seat centered or offset? The answers to these questions would rule out the possibility of the tractor being a B or BN. All C's and Super C's to my knowledge originally had a hydraulic pump under the distributor, sliding rear hubs, and centered operators platform.

A picture would help. If it is a A or B engine you should be able to find the serial number of the engine and by doing that tell what it is off of. The tractor number on the A and B where the same as the serial number on the right side of the block just below the head very close to being under #1 plug. That may tell you what you have and you may have one like my BA which is half B and Half A

Engine serial for as A is FAA, for a B, FAB--there may be an M (motor) as the last letter. The 113 in the C, 123 and 135 in other tractors should have a plate. Perhaps the power unit engines did not?

What is under the gas tank? lift arms? or just a big gaping hole? Up by the steering wheel above the battery box are there two levers ?

We saw on a previous post an ad with picture of a Farmall B that the seller confidently called a C. We all had a good laugh but you may be the victim of false/ignorant advertising. Your question should have been asked before you made the purchase. I see lots of misleading ads on places like eBay and Craig's List (no reflection either). You need to know what you are buying before you buy, not after the purchase. In the ad we saw, the price was way too high.
