300 live hydraluics

I was wondering how you are able to tell if my 300 has live hydraluics, tractor has 3pt hitch, power sterring, and 3- control valves on dash, i ask this question for this reason, iam considering buying a 3pt log splitter and wondering if i should buy one with pto pump( which i know is more functional) or buy log splitter with hydraluics already attached, anyone having any insight it would be much appericated, thanks

If your 3 point works when you have the clutch in it has live hydraulics. Would not really matter for wood splitter. The splitter I use has the cylinder and a valve to operate splitter. I use the remote hydraulic plugs on tractor and tie valve open, then use valve on splitter to control it.

If the hydraulic lines from the valves run up to a pump between the distributor and the back of the timing cover you have factory live hydraulics. If they run somewhere else you would have to describe it. I don't think that whether you have live or not would matter for a log splitter, you would not be driving the tractor while splitting wood anyway. Do you have a set of remotes that is not in use? If so you could hook a splitter to that. PSI and GPM of hydraulic flow is what matters for a splitter, more PSI =more splitting power, more GPM=faster cycle time. I split all of our wood by hand, which is cheaper.

300/350 were live hydraulics, in other words as long as engine is running the hydraulic system works, this was also name for independent power take off, "live pto", this was change from earlier tractors that only had power live if the clutch was engaged for the transmission. If you had a Farmall H or M they were not originally factory equipped with live pto or hyd.

Thanks Gene, that what i thought but was not sure, cyclinder iam going to use on this log splitter is 4inch with 24 inch stroke

We ran the splitter with the 300, 756, and 786 at different times.

The 300 was fastest.

786 hydraulics never were worth a snot.
