Tractors in Original Condition

Is there a museum (or pictures of the tractors) that houses Farmall tractors that were never used, straight off the assembly line and put away. I would like to see one with original, non-faded paint, grease free, NOT restored to original but actually original. Not sure if they exist but just thought it would be cool to see. thanks, ~Anthony

The best source of pictures similar to what you are asking is probably the Wisconsin Historical Society. They have a huge collection of pictures in the McCormick Collection. These aren't necessarily new tractors, but if not, typically will be close to new tractors. Color pictures didn't get used until 1945 or so. Earlier images with color will typically be colorized advertising, which may only slightly match a production machine.

Go to this page then click on "Color Images of Tractors, 1913-1985" to get started. Once you have looked at those images, from that page click on "search for images" to go looking for other stuff.

It would have been neat if IH had taken one of every model it produced, right off the line, and parked it in a warehouse somewhere. Back in the day, people didn't have this "preservationist" attitude we do now.

Anything IH did have around got sold off in 1985, scattered to the wind. How much of it got scrapped. How much of it got used.

Right now I am only aware of two tractors that even come close to meeting your criteria:

1. The last 5488. AFAIK it's still 100% original.
2. The "one-hour 560" featured in the Nov-Dec 2012 Red Power magazine. However, it's been painted.

When I worked for an IH dealership in the 70's and 80's we had a customer and his father that really took care of their tractors and mahinery. At that time they had a Super M that looked like new with the original paint. They bought a new 1066 which they still have and still looks like new.

It,s funny this topic came up , just last week I was looking through some old VHS tapes , came across a tape that a had got from the case side , made just shortly after the buy out had a tour of a warehouse where they had moved the collections of the IH and CASE companys. Stuff just piled, not ready for display, tractors parked, old crossmtors cases, regs, F12s case L,to 70s and 80s case and IH tractors ,915 combine , cyclo planter, and constructon equipment. Some never sold ,some from the test track, some bought back. The person leading the tour was Harry Kline or Cline ??? Wonder where all that stuff is today ???

Now that is really cool! I wonder where it all is? I would LOVE to see that video you have. Is there any way you could put it on YouTube and share it with everyone? Or maybe mail it to me and I could do that to help share and preserve the video. I'd always mail it straight back to you within a week.

I know of a 1979 (last year made) Farmall 140 that was bought new and delivered to a farm in NC. It was unloaded into a barn and parked....where it sits today. I THINK the owners run it periodically to keep it up, but from what I understand it has never worked and is brand new. 2 of them were bought and stored, but 1 has been sold. I used to have the pictures of it, but not anymore.
