Yes there are but they are not common and no where near as many so the ones I am talking about. Now starter motors that is a total different thing. As a matter of fact I do not know of any engine I have ever seen that did not turn the same as other, other then one and it ran both ways and that is how the thing had both forward and reverse you simply shut it off and started it back wards to go back wards |

ALL the diesel engines I have and have messed with spun the same direction as the gas one did other then the Detroit that if you did not watch what was going on would start forward or back wards but that was no was was meant to happen. I know all the Cat and Cummins diesels and the Ih etc ALL spin the same as the gas engines I have been around. Ya also depending on how you look at it the old JD engines didn't because the crank was side ways and the rotation was still the same

All my diesels and gassers that I have turn clockwise if standing in front. What brands turn the other direction? I'm curious to know.

IH gas start diesels, since we are on a IH board.

not a chance, turn same direction as gas. why do you think they came with a crank like the gas ones... so you can crank them. have done this many times, started a diesel engine with a hand crank.

Or am I all wet and not thinking straight? I know all modern gas and diesels turn the same way, which is clockwise.

The engine that was in my TD-^ IH dozier turned the exact same direction as ALL the other gas/diesel engines I have messed with so maybe you need to back up a bit and rethink things

Like I say, I know my Cummins and Powerstrokes both turn clockwise. I was sure of myself about the IH gas start diesels, but now I am trying to talk myself out of it. However, I know the mags have a CCW rotation.

Rotation of things like starter and mags due to the mounts can/do rotate different on different engines but as I said 99% of engines rotate the same. As for the GAS/DIESEL IH engines they spin the same as thew gas ones do. Just think about it this way. What would happen if engines did not spin the same way and some one say dropped in a V-8 in place of a straight 6 and the 2 did not rotate the same you would have a night mare to fix that so most as I said 99% rotate the same so swaps etc can be made
