johndeeregreg 12-29-2012 18:57:37 216.66.73.62 Report to Moderator	looking on ebay i see drawbar rollers for m's, some are flat like a piece of pipe, and some have a bulge in the center of the roller. what is correct, or why are there different ones available? sorry if its a dumb question but i'm fairly new to farmalls. thanks [Reply]   [No Email]

The Super versions of both models had the flat cylindrical roller and the later number models had the barrel shaped roller on the swinging drawbar used with the fasthitch swinging drawbar. Now this is as the tractors came from the factory new. Actually the swinging drawbars were an option on all of the letter, number series, and wheatland (W) models. Later on on used tractors you would commonly see various roller type drawbar retaining clips on all the bigger Farmall models. The strap type clip retainers and the loop drawbar area where the strap rode wore pretty fast and the strap types were usually replaced with some type of roller retainer. The wheatland or standard W-6, W-400 and W-450 gas and diesel models never came with a roller or strap supported swinging drawbar because the configuration that bolted on the regularly supplied loop drawbar contained a support angle iron strap under the swinging drawbar to support it. W-9 type tractors had a roller supported swinging drawbar as I recall, whether it was a straight sleeve roller or barrel shaped I don't recall. Maybe both type of rollers were used, depending on the tractor's vintage.   [Reply]  [No Email]

As time progressed IH changed the drawbar supports,front and rear, drawbars and the piviot pin. Without doing any checking I remember the drawbar rollars showing up about the time M production ended. When IH started to use the bigger in the center roller, think it was to help with wear on the U shaped drawbar and the support above the drawbar. When the U shaped drawbar was set at different heights the swinging drawbar did not always intersect at a square angle. That would cause the U drawbar and its upper support to wear more on one edge or end. Roller with the high center was supposed to help.   [Reply]  [No Email]

First roller that replaced the straps came out on swinging drawbar attachments in march or april of 1952. Attachment 49205DB for H and 49204DC for a M. Effective SM serial # 3900 or MD 3937. These were roller assemnly 356563R91 or a roller with no hump. In 1957 the hump roller assembly 356563R92 was effective at F450 serial # 10778 and F350 at 8741. Later they made a few changes and called it 356563R93. SH tractors got the no hump roller. The rollers were aftermarket as far as i remember as all the Ms in our neighborhood didnt have any rollers.Someone mite know if the rollers were factory.   [Reply]  [No Email]

I don"t really know why he did that but I thought it looked good. I never thought to ask him about it and now it"s far too late. I take the tractor to shows and rides and no one ever asks about that as I think anyone younger than me just assumes it came from the factory like that. I still think it looks good.
