Hey guys, just had my father in laws Super MTA (his pride and joy) dropped at my house. going to do a complete bolt off restoration on it, its going to take a long time but im looking forward to the challenge. Can anyone tell me where I can find new parts for the transmission? I know where to get a torque, but im afraid I have broken teeth on the gears but im having a difficult time finding gears. thanks guys, Anthony |

| Everybody has access to the parts books these days at the CaseIH website.
I just did a couple of quick comparisons between the Super M and MTA, and the numbers are matching so far. |

| Have to disagree, nothing forward of the differential in a SM transmission is the same as a SMTA. Transmission housings are different also. SMTA used the same transmission top cover as some of the SM did, but with different shift forks. |

So all the sliding gears are different?
So were the M, SM, and SMTA gears all different? |

| SMTA has a bigger diameter main shaft (top Shaft) than a M or SM. SMTA has a splined counter shaft. M and SM are keyed to gears. SM counter shaft has some sections where the gears go thats a bigger diameter than a M. First and reverse sliding gear is the same in most M and SM. Main shafts on most M and SM can be interchanged, but later ones had some improvements. Real late M and the SM got a input shaft and input shaft housing change. They can be interchanged if the matching housing is used. One bearing, seal and seal retainer and yoke also changed with the input. Early M can have some things different. |

| Probably should have mentioned that M and SM transmission gears can be put in both housings if enough parts are switched. |

| I put 560 gears in one of my SMTAs. I have good original SMTA gears for sale. I am in eastern MA. email is open. Let me know if fixed or sliding and the number of teeth. |

| be careful buying new replacement gears I heard or read somewhere recently (cant remenber where it may have been here in an earlier post) Most new ones are chineese junk and the person that said it would much rather have had a good used one. |

| I am pretty sure the tranny and final drive gears in a 400 or 450 are the same as a SMTA. I have a parts book for 400/450 and can look up the numbers, however I don't have a SMTA parts book to cross reference. |

| Aren't the gears the same as a Super? Doesn't S teiner's have reproduction gears? If you need SMTA stuff Haskens Tractor Parts in Miles, IA had a few of them. |

| More of a problem to find good gears for a SM than for a SMTA. 400, 450 have the same gears and some other models have gears the same or part of the gears the same. Shift forks are the hardest to find for a SMTA. |
