i have a farmall 560 gas with a narrow front and the power steering is VERY sloppy, it has alot of play at the pump, seems like inside of it is wore out? how can i change it to regular manual steering?. or can the power teering pump be rebuildt?. thanks

Tractors of that vintage without power steering would be kind of rare. I never have seen one and I worked on them since they were introduced new in 1958. Your problem may be as simple as a backed out set screw, shot thrust bearing on worm shaft or as bad as worn out splines on input shaft. If it is the splines, I have cut the yoke on u joint, welded spacers on them for a bolt to go though and tightened the yoke down tight on splines. As the shaft has to move in and out to shift the spool for power steering ,then you have to adjust the steering shaft so the whole shaft all the way to the steering wheel moves back and forth. It does work. Lots of stuff inside that unit. Takes some work to get them all a part.

I have a 560 in my shop right now that the owner wants me to install power steering on. I have seen a few here in southern Minnesota that did not have power steering. I don't know why anybody would ever order a tractor of that size without power steering but they are around. The tractor that I'm fixing has yellow paint showing through the red that is flaking off. Even the inside of the under the seat tool box is painted yellow. I'm thinking that this tractor was once owned by the county or state highway dept.

Yes, I'm located 45 miles West of Rochester on Interstate 90. I bought a parts tractor that is equipped with powersteering. It's a non runner so I don't know the condition of the PS unit yet. I'm hoping that it works. My e-mail is open.
