656 Hitch Delay??

Finally got some snow to try out the blower on the 656 Hydro. I love the hydro for snow blowing. We got about 14” so far and it worked great , especially with a heated cab now! Only thing I noticed which I hadn’t before is there is a delay in the hitch raising. It raises plenty fast when it moves but takes 3-5 seconds or so from moving the lever till the hitch actually raises. You have to wait for it before going forward again. I don’t recall this problem in the spring when I was plowing with it. Do I have something set wrong with the draft control or is something wrong somewhere?

To verify where the problem lies, put your aux
valve on demand and then try the hitch while
holding aux valve on . If you have a loader or
something else hooked to aux valve you will need
to run it to the end of stroke so pressure will
build. If the hitch responds immediately when you
do that you will know the problem is in the
unloading valve. Probably has a sticky o-ring or
partially plugged orfice in piston. Problem is you
have to take the draft control cyl out to repair
it. I cannot visualize the clearance in front of
the valve , you might just possibly have enough
room to get it out without pulling cyl assembly
out but I don't think so. It is under the seat
under that flat cover. Far as your draft control lever, it should always be far forward in heavy position,(off) unless you are using an implement that enter the ground like a plow and then it is a rare condition that you really want or benefit from using it .

We had more snow yesterday and I had a chance to test it as you said. Putting the aux hydraulics on demand does indeed make the hitch raise immediately. In fact after doing that a few times, it seems the delay I was experiencing has decreased by at least half.
We had another 8-9” of white stuff overnight with more forecasted today and throughout the rest of the week so I’m not going to tear into it immediately.
I did do a search on the unloading valve you mentioned and did read somewhere that it was removable without removing the cylinder. So I assume I need to just remove it, clean it, inspect, replace the o-rings and reinstall. Is the valve obvious once the cover is removed?
Ill get to it as soon as the snow lets up.
Thanks
Tim

The unloading valve is under the plug farthest to
the right when you are standing behind looking
forward and down on draft control cyl with cover off
under seat. Snap ring, plug then piston. Will be a
small orfice in the piston so blow back and forth
through it. You can look inside farther to make sure
there is nothing under the ball inside. That seat
for ball screws out but should not be necessary to
go there unless damage to ball or seat.
