Supper C thermostat

I’m having a bit of a time removing the thermostat on the supper C. Is there something that holes it in there besides the rust, I’m a little hesitant to jest start tearing it up to get it out of there. I'm finding this plan to change the oil seal on the front of the crank is turning in to more of a project than I thought. But while I have everything apart up front and a couple months before I will need it I thought it was prudent to do it all so I don’t have to tear it back apart to soon.

If my memory is correct there is a metal ring on the top side of the thermostat that holds it in place. The ring fits into a machined groove in the cast housing and is a sort of snap ring. Once the rust is out of the way it should be visible. No need to damage anything removing the old thermostat. Good luck and a simple job as I recall, Hal.

Thanks Hall I will take a closer look tomorrow I have been socking it for several days now Maybe I can move enough rust around to find it Thanks again

Hal's right, it has a snap ring at the top. If you replace the thermostat make sure you get the new ring and also a spacer as the new thermostates are shorter. Just replaced one on a 200.

Thanks I’m glad you mention the spacer because I had no idea and parts people are not all ways helpful Yes I’m trying to do everything I can think off while I have the front tore down.

Did you finally get your old thermostat removed so a new one could be installed? Hope all is going well and you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year in 2013, Hal.
