Working on my new to me 560. It was running terrible when I got it thought it was just in the carb. Cleaned and installed the new kit set the screws one turn for idle and 1.5 on main jet. I never warmed up the tractor and really set the carb cause it was running so poorly.

Moved onto the ignition found a bad spark plug so installed a new set of d21s. Reset the distributor timing with it at 2 degrees before TDC like it says I the manual. Now I can't get it started at all. It smokes lots of white fuel rich smoke and fires with a weak pop but never tries to start.

Going to think on it tonight but looking for some good ideas from you guys.

What kinda spark are you getting at the plugs, red, orange, or a good fat blue one. Don't sound like a good ole blue one, or it would be running like it should. Check the inside of the cap for cracks, what condition is the rotor in, did you clean and reset the points to the correct gap. How much juice are you getting from the coil? could be bad wires back to the switch.

Set the main jet at 5 turns out, I doubt if it will run properly at less than 3.5 or so. You need an Operators manual that has all that information in it.

I've been told to check the intake manifold for cracks or leaky gasket..that will cause them to run crappy...check by spraying ether when idling

I have good blue spark. I have been through the wires and firing order. That's one of the reasons I walked away from it. I had them on in the opposite direction... Oops. Got that fixed and now it just smokes terribly and fires every once in a while. I had the main jet set out probably 3 turns buts set it back into 1.5 when I seen all the smoke.

Intake manifold leak could be a possibility but have to get it running again for that. I use a propane torch with the nozzle off. It's the only thing I have used that really gives a good indication of a leak. Allows you to pinpoint it better.

I probably have some thing screwed up was hoping for someone to jog my memory as to what I did.

take the sparkplugs out. Sqirt a couple of pumps of oil in each cyclinder and roll it over a few times. You may have washed all the oil off the walls. can't hurt and will help with compression.

Thee's no guarantee those NEW Champion spark plugs are any good. I'd try different brand, or clean your old ones and try again.

Got it figured out. Plug wires were on 180 out. My method of stuffing something in the plug hole and waiting till it flew out failed me. I couldn't turn it over by hand or reach the start button. Got a helper and was able to get it set properly. Runs like a top now.
