I have a 2750 W Craftsman Generator from '76. It has 7 HP Craftsman/Tecumseh Engine. I have put in new points & condenser Still no Spark. I have been advised to replace the coil on the Magneto. Problem Tecumseh Is out of business since December 08. 2 locations said sorry part is NLA. I tried Miller's in Columbia MO they list the coil . Can't get an answer. Are they still there?
Thanks

Take the old coil to a small engine/mower shop with a pile of old mowers out back. Chances are they'll sell you a used coil for a few dollars (I paid $5 for my last one...)

Keep in mind two different coils are used with Tecumseh w/breaker point ignition: A small "donut" type that fits under the flywheel on early engines. Later ones have a boxy rectangular coil that goes outside the flywheel. Make sure to get the right one!

Note all engine sizes of both coil styles use the same coil. You may need to put your "new" coil onto the old magneto armature for it to fit however.

In addition to the good advice you have already received, you might take the magneto to a really good magneto and armature shop (we have them in Shreveport, LA) and have them test the magneto. Sometimes a broken wire in the primary windings is near the surface, and a good technician can spot it, and repair it. If you are near northwest Louisiana, I can send you the names of a couple of places that can do the above. Good luck.

I have an armature for a Tecumseh engine, the box has P/N 30560 also has a square hole for mounting about.375". It has never been used. Hal

Here are some pictures of that coil. Hal

Is the flywheel nice and clean as in little to no rust??? Is the gap between the flywheel and the mag set to spec??? Have you cleaned the point since some come with a protective coating on them so as to keep them good on the shelf?? I am guessing you have the point gap set correctly and the wires are not shorting any where. Had an engine that once caused be odd spark problems and found it was a worn bearing surface behind the flywheel so the point would not open and close the same all the time and had to go with an electronic ignition to fix the problem. Also is the magnet good and strong on the flywheel??

I had same problem with 8 horse Tecumseh. Ordered a new coil from Outdoor Distributors.com. They have quite a few Tecumseh parts they tell me. They are not too speedy in their shipping I didn't think but got parts.

While you're searching, don't forget ebay.

Search daily - chances are if you don't find it on your first try, you will within a week or two.

They are still in business they are however not producing engines at this time I may or may not work for them. the part number that you are looking for is a live part and you shouldnt have any issue getting it from a Tecumseh distributor in your area search for certified parts corp it should be a good start
