C-113 main bearings

Anybody know the width of the thrust main? Turns out that bearings are discontinued for the W-12 crank (not a Waukesha after all). I want to see if this crank can be modified to accept 113 bearings, only other option is change to newer crank for $600. Thanks, Fritz

I saw those bearings, and I wondered why the S/N break started so high. Rice Equipment gave me the sad news. Prior to the S/N shown, there was a different crank. The crankshaft shown on Y.T. parts list, No. 30928DBX, was a factory update with different bearings. Rice further stated the difference was wider bearings, and since the front two bearings are already as wide as the bore, I'm guessing the difference must lie in the thrust main. The crankshaft guy said that he can make the thrust main wider, "if there is enough material there to do so". He was referring to the flange just ahead of the rear main seal. So... having used C-113 mains in an F-12 before, (but never a 2405D crank before) I wanted to see how close the later bearing compared to the earlier crank. My gut feeling says "it aint gonna happen", because I'm wondering why I.H. would forge a different part no. in the crank without making a substantial change. But, how much different can it be if you drop a crank into a block, use the same caps, and oil seal retainer?

The Waukesha engine uses bearings that are completely different than the IHC engine. The waukesha main bearings are babbitt poured bronze bearings. I may have a NOS set of STD bearings, & a few 0.030 bearings, but you may need to just have the bearings repoured, and sized to match your crank after it has been turned. Effingham Regrinding in Effingham Illinois can do this, or they can re-pour the bearing and your machine shop can size the bearing to whatever the crank cleans up at.

scratch the earlier post, just re read your post, and see that it is not a waukesha crank. I should have nos STD and 0.030 bearings for both the early and later IHC engine crankshaft.

Well, you learn something new every day. I thought all of the 12/14 engines other than the waukesha would have been the same. I would keep looking for the right bearing though. Did you try Tom Underwoods parts of the past? He has a lot of obsolete and NOS parts. If the newer style bearings fit into your block and you need to change crankshafts, I'm sure I have a couple around. I think I even have new bearings to go with them. I'd sell them a whole lot cheaper than $600!

Actually, I see the post above mine says he might have the bearings you need.
