Moving snow this morning with 2 pt blade. Got done and fueled tractor. Started it up and power steering felt notchy, jerky, when turning. Tried 2 point lift and it would not go up or down. Lucky blade was up. Checked fluid level it was OK. Parked it in shed for now. Ever had anything like that happen and what might the fix be? Thanks!

What does the fluid look like? Farm I worked at in High School had an 806 LP gas tractor. The farm owner wasn't real big on preventative maintenance once it got cold you didn't use the 806 'cause it wouldn't steer or lift or stop, the common theory was their was water in the hydraulic fluid when it got cold the water became ice and fluid din't get pushed or pulled to make things work, didn't look that bad but I suspect maybe there was a layer of water on the bottom of the reservoir making life difficult when it got cold. Other problems I've encountered in other places is a marginal hydraulic system that can't handle the colder and thicker hydraulic fluid somewhere in the system it finds it's easier to suck air or bypass somewhere than to suck cold thick hydraulic fluid from the reservoir.

Fluid is clean and good. Leaks so bad from power steering that fluid gets replaced pretty often.
I use least expensive UTF fluid from farm store. This is thicker than some. This morning it was below freezing and when I started it the pump rattled so I let it idle for 10 minutes till fluid warmed up. The blade did seem a little slow to lift when I was moving snow but I was not concerned at the time. It acts like it is not pumping at all or very little as I can steer it. Tractor is keep indoors so it should not be water in oil.

No, probably has never been serviced. Not serviced in last 30+ years anyway. It has 5300 hours on the meter.

The FIRST thing I would do come the morning would be to service that filter according to the operator manual! Those filters should serviced at least once a year. Very good possibilty your filter is either plugged or froze up not allowing enough oil to flow! Also these tractors are picky about their oil! They prefer and do best with Hy-tran, 303 fluid, or other QUALITY oil; NOT the cheap stuff! Let us know if this helps. Armand

I will give the filter a look when it warms up or I get an open space in the shop. Was planning on taking the steering apart to fix leaks anyway.
Thanks.
