Posthole Auger bit and blades

The point is worn to the need of replacing. However I am thinking that the Blades could be sharpened? What is the notch for? A depth gauge for sharpening?

We could not find a name on the Auger. And I am at work but have the tip and a blade here with me.

Hard to tell what make any of them are after they have been used for awhile. I don't waste time with bolt on bits anymore. Most of them are only "edge" hardened, and do exactly what yours did. I got tired of trying to sharpen them, and buying replacements, so I ended that process. I cut 2" wide pieces from a used grader blade bit (about 4" long, give or take....), then welded 2 of them to the auger. I haven't had to sharpen, or replace one in about 6 years and 300-400 posts. Put them on at a slight angle to the out side (and both a DIFFERENT angle), on the outer edges of the flight.
