My needle is bent on my IH 37 baler, and I an looking at a IH 47 square baler. Are the 37 and 47 IH baler parts interchangeable, in particular the needle and the Twine Disc?

Yes, same parts for all 46/37/47 twine tie, the needles, mount u-pipe, knotter parts all same. By the way the u-pipe that the needles bolt to will get twisted usually, this was a common break down on these.

It usually takes a lot of patience and adjusting those needles, free swinging over those discs to get both needles the same. All those parts are interchangable but they made running changes as they went along so may not all look identical.

As the guys have said, parts are the same. While you are at it,check the needle brake lining to see if the lining is worn down to the rivets. (Old style).New replacements are bonded. You can"t tell the wear from simply looking at the brake-Ive seen cases where the brake will not hold if the disk is wearing against the rivets. Also, check to see if the plunger stop dog is free, and the spring is in good condition.Seen the needles damaged as a result of either problem. One final thing-check the upper and lower hay dog springs, these dogs help make a cleaner bale, springs are often missing/broken.

I am trying to buy a 47 baler to use the needle, etc to fix the 37 baler (my step son bent one needle and possibly the u pipe. The twine disc also chipped a small part off.

My concern is that looking at the picture of the IH 47 baler eyes, is that the 37 baler eyes are smooth while the 47 baler eyes have a large loop in the middle of the eye (looks like about a 90 degree angle on one side and 45 degrees on the other.

Will I be able to use the 47 baler eye to replace my bent 37 baler eye?
