Gas Tank Repair

I thought that I heard one time that IH sent there dealers a tool to reform the opening on the gas tank so that the cap sealed better. Is that true or just a story some one made up? I asked a couple of dealers and they said they didn't know anything about it. Thanks

Bob

I think the tool was for deformed or damaged openings, not necessarily for undamaged openings. I think it was aftermarket, not sure.

Yes that is the tool. Do you know where a person can buy or rent one? Thanks

Does anybody have a tool that they could post a picture of. I worked for an International dealer back in the 70's and was not aware of any tool. I would like to know what it looks like.
Thanks Charlie

We had the tool at dealership. It was a mandatory, we ship it to dealer and dealer pays for it. It was to reform damaged necks so the cap would seal properly. Part of the agreement IH made with gov't. and or insurance co.s over liability issues of fires. I saw some where on the net that some one was making them if demand was there but they would be pretty expensive. We used to loan ours out to customers when they got their new caps if they wanted to use it.

Over on the farmall cub forum there is a guy that has one and I think they tell you how to make one of your own. oldiron29

Gene,
You are right. I had a small leak with the tall gas cap on my H; I just bought some new gasket material, cut out a new one based on old pattern....no more leaking the past 8 yrs. I think 8 years qualifies as a "fix".
