Steering IH 464 -problem?

My front wheels are pointing way opposite directions. I got under there and looked and the only thing I can figure is the steering cylinder is the problem even though it uses its full range of motion. I don't see any gear box above the cylinder but could that be a issue? All the linkages look normal, I can't figure out what happened. Yes, the tie rods are pretty much shot but this steering issue is way out of that range. Thanks for any help.
 
Hi Ray, is this tractor new to you? Does it have a front end loader? Simple ? first, did someone adjust the width of the front axle without adjusting the steering drag links? Lastly there is a bracket up under the front axle mount that holds the steering cylinder in place. There is a couple grease fittings on the bracket that most operators forget to lube.
My brother manage to break this bracket on his 495 with a 2250 FEL on it.
When the steering knuckle bushings of front wheel bearing are shot, the first indication is the front tire starts rubbing on the front axle support. There is also a woodruff key on each steering knuckle that could have sheared but have never seen that problem.

That sounds like what happened. I have had this tractor for a while and yes it has a FEL. I went to make a turn and the left front wheel rubbed against the steering housing and then I reversed the rim so it did not rub and tried to drive it and that is when the wheels started moving opposite directions. Thanks Jim.
 
This also happened after I replaced a spindle, it broke off while loading lime, so the wheel bearings are brand new.
 
look at the top of the axle where the linkage attaches to it and u will c the steering arm has a slot for a key way, maybe that has sheered off and is allowing the shaft to turn without turning the wheel, happened to me
