The H that I am working on probably needs the bushings on the main steering shaft.Any one know of after market supplier? 'Also the big nut in front of the worm gear in the steering housing appears to be an inch and a quarter in size. however a socket or wrench wont stay on to loosen. It appears to be tapered. Any tricks or ideas?

I got mine from Carter Gruenwald, ask for Ken Updike.

I just used a crescent wrench and the nut came off.

Crescent wrench got 1 off for me. The other, PO used a pipe wrench to put it on. Too tight and already dinged up so I used a pipe wrench to get it off.

Those big nuts alwsays get chewed up. No problem, I finally ground two big flats on mine, and use a Cerscent wrench. Once you get inside there, it may be the worm gear worn, it may be no seal in t he bottom of the housing letting all the oil drain out, it may be the sector geaar. I had lots of these problems, , the latest was the sectror gear nut needed tightening down. Keep at it, yuou"ll get it.

Thanks to all for the replies. I tried a good crescent and still didnt get it loose. The nut is smooth and looks like it has never had a wrench used on it. Pipe wrench entered my mind, just hated to chew it up. Will try again, will get it one way or the other.
