IH didn't use small gas motors to start diesels such as John Deere, Caterpiller, and probably many others. Nor did they use special shotgun shells like several others.

IH engines were dual fuel that started on gas and, when warm, were switched over to diesel. The engines had a third valve that changed the size of the combustion chamber so both fuels could ignite when the appropriaate fuel was selected.
