does 706 ta free wheel downhill like a 400 ?
can you put a 706 ta into a 400 ?

The 706 and other large frame IH have hydraulic operated TA systems. The direct clutch is as a multi plate hydraulic lockup unit where the smaller TA is a dry single plate mechanical clutch with Pressure plate and throwout bearing. The TA, in reduction, drives through a one way clutch that provides primary torque reaction control. A lockup hydraulic clutch provides some additional resistance to backwards turning of the TA spool, but also provides lockup against freewheeling and allows throttle based deceleration control (not however to be used to slow by pulling into TA from high speeds to slow down).
