If you are wondering what people are talking about, I'll just post some pictures, not 2000 words.

Thanks for the help. I got two m"s in the same deal I gave one to my dad and kept this one because it was in good shape and has 4 new tires. I built a 3pt for it so it gets used around the farm to cut grass and auger grain.

The flanged rear housings were standard on the high drum cotton picker tractors. The bull gear housings were bolted to these flanges to both raise the tractor and reverse it's direction wnen the picker was mounted. At the end of the pcking season the picker, bull gears, and tall front wheel were removed and the traactor could then be used for all normal uses the rest of the year. The highdrum picker head was 20 spindles high and the low drum cotton picker head was 14 spindles high. The low drum pickers "fliped the differential" to reverse the direction of the tractor when used under the picker and the low drum tractor was not raised as was the high drum.

High and low drum refers to the big things (drums) in the front that pull in the cotton. They looks like an upright version of snapping rolls to me. Cotton in one part of the country had taller plants than another so it took a high drum picker in those areas.

I asked once... :lol:

MCH used geared drops that changed the tractor travel dirrection. When the geared drops were removed regular wheels would go on the axles along with some other part changes that converted the tractor back to normal operation.

CH = Cotton Harvester

I can't remember if the axle flanges mean it's a high drum or a low drum cotton picker. Heck I don't even know for sure what high drum and low drum mean, it just sounds cool.

It has been converted to a standard rowcrop height from a high (harvester) it may have been either gear driven, or chain driven depending on what was mounted, and the intended direction of travel. Gear went backwards, chain went forward, but could be made to go backward by flipping the differential gears. Probably not special, of of more value. Jim
