Funny you ask, I was just thinking about this very point last night. On another forum, somebody had posted pictures of some european tractors and it got me thinking. Basically, I have NO interest in them whatsoever. Which, as I thought more about that, is quite odd. So I started to think about WHY that is. I guess what it boils down to is that I'm on this board because of my love for old farm equipment - and that love of equipment is less about an interest in machinery - and more of a sentimental attachment to old farms and equipment I used to see as a kid. I guess it's an attachment and fascination with america at what I consider a better time for us. Back into our industrial revolution, coming through the dustbowl and depression, and how we came together during and after WWII. Not to turn it political, but back when americans were more self sufficient - before we got so liberalized, socialized, and commercialized. THAT's the attraction for me. Old american tractors are remnants of our "finest hour" so to speak. So it's not that I don't appreciate british or european history, it really is just sentimental american pride that drives my interest with old tractors that were used by americans during that time period. But keep posting! It's not my primary interest, but it is interesting nonetheless. They are afterall farmalls. :) |
