Hi, a friend of mine bought a farmall 340 with a loader, he removed the hydraulic pump to replace the shaft seal, drained the milky/white oil and replaced it with some tractor hydraulic fluid. loader was working fine until these repairs/maintenance and now seems to want to lift but no hydraulic pressure. does anyone ever had this problem before? thanks

Head the tractor down hill (front lower by about 10 inches) use compressed air in the reservoir under the seat (max 30 PSI and a pipe fitting or rubber stopper with hole). Run the engine and move all hydraulic levers through their range of motion to get the air out. It will work. Jim

You're still going to have "milky" oil with one change of fluid. It's almost impossible to get all the water out, even if you drain all the lines and cylinders. Looks like your pump is not picking up it's prime and it may take a while to get all the air "bubbles" out. Then as the system refills, be sure you add more fluid before the pump sucks air again, or you will continually fight it. Also, if the new shaft seal is not installed right or is not the proper seal, it can suck air and you will still be fighting it. It might seal the oil for a while, but air can get past it.
