Farmall 400 with Electrall

My neighbor put his Farmall 400 with Electrall on eBay. This might be the only one you get to bid on ;)

Look at this on eBay:

The Electrall is missing that idler gear. I can't understand why Mark didn't hire a short-run gear hobber to make another for probably $200. It may even be available as an on-the-shelf blank that only needs a bore and maybe a washer or two. Can't imagine why the Previous Owner to Mark didn't just remove the V-belt. It's a two minute job.

Many gears are standarized with the same pitch, pressure angle, and helix. For those who want to search, it has 39 teeth. Part number is 362 802 R1. NLA from IH or The Parts Depot in WI. That missing gear wouldn't stop me if I needed another F400 w/Electrall.

I placed a $5001 bid to see if it would trip the reserve. It didn't. Auction expires at midnight Sunday.

Never could figure out why people put a reserve on their items. I don't even bother to look at them as the reserve is almost always way beyond value. Why don't they just start it at the lowest price they are willing to sell it for. There, I got that off my mind.

As for the reserve, I have seen unreserved auctions go very cheap and felt sorry for the seller. High initial pricing is likely to dampen bidder interest.

But this is something that will see alot of action tommorow evening. Over 1200 people have seen the ad. That is more than most attended auctions. Should be fun to watch. I am guessing it will blow past the reserve ($10,000?). When the dust settles, I think it has a chance to sell between $13,000 and $15,000. The winning bidder will have only submitted one bid.

Anyone else care to guess the selling price? And no, I am not biding in the last hour. I don't need another tractor plus it is 1400 miles away. I would like to see it go high though.

I just discovered that the auction title is flawed and the tractor may not get the exposure it deserves. Mark inserted a "-" between "Farmall" and International". That's equivalent to a spelling error. I wrote to him and hope he can fix it in time. Miss Grundy was right about spelling and punctuation.

On the whole, he would be better off to cancell the auction, install the missing idler gear, and start over next year.

I sold some stuff on evilbay with a reserve. Wasn't real happy about some of the bidding. My son, the evilbay guru told me to list my items with a 1 dollar starting bid. WOW, I have it figured out! Once involved people hate to loose!

Me, I never bid on any item with a reserve.....ever!

The auction has been ended early. Mark sent me an email this morning saying that he is relisting this evening.

This action is apparently in response to my email to him advising that he correct his auction title. He also didn't get any bids yesterday.
