super c has got a shimmy some times. then slowing down, it will stop. have a messurement 1 inch smaller mid wheal in front than in back mid wheal. not sure if front end is farmall, but the axle extention is forword of the tractor, rather trailing behind. would that be the cause? thanks. |

It is probably IH.Never saw a non-IH wf on a C/SC.It will have an 'IH' cast into the cast parts. It should have rubber bumpers to limit'tip'.the front wheel hubs will be cast with 3 large 'holes',3 bolt holes to secure the rim.A pic would help.

Yes. Lift the tires off the ground one at a time. Spin the tire and use a nail or prick punch to scribe an accurate line on the tread. (requires a steady rest, like a couple of concrete blocks to hold the scribe.) Shake and wiggle the tire and spindle to find loose spindle or wheel bearings. Spindle bearings allow the vertical shaft to move in the spindle tube Now lower it back on the ground and drive it up gently against a 2X4 laid on the ground so both wheels are pushed rearward a little. Now measure that front to rear difference. using the scribe marks. It should be about 3/16 to 1/4" If more adjust the tierods to make it so. Now put the 2X4 behind the tires. back gently into it. Measure again. if the rear are more than about 1/8 inch wider in the rear than front with push on them from the board, there is too much slop. Either tierods, or spindles are worn. Jim

Jim, that is exactly how my dad taught me to do that 40 years ago. I can still remember the lines scribed on the tires.

Spindle bearings must be pressed in and out, not a big deal because the cylindrical nature of the tube makes use of a threaded rod easy. Jim

without doing that, it sounds about rite. just repacked the wheal bearins,. noticed the shafts in the axle extetions has slpo up and down. could that also mean bearings are bad? or you need to take the tierod donw more on the shaft?

The 'up/down' slop will cause the shimmy. The excessive 'toe-in' preobably wont either.that will just cause the front tires to wear REALLY FAST.Check the 'componets' for wear.Loose/slop mean "shimmy"

I take you're talking wide front? The factory WF does stick out in front .It 'shimmys because it is worn.Could be steering gears, tierods, other causes....
