Identify without SN

I am going to look at a 560 Diesel and trying to figure out the year. The current owner says he can not read the sn tag. Are there any telltales for the different years other than the SN tag or is the sn stamped somewhere else? Engine sn ranges? Any other ways to make this id? Thanks in advance.

One way to narrow it down would be to check out the PTO. The early 560's had the planetary type. The later 560's used clutch type.

Casting codes in the form of 1*8*D -- Jan 8 1958, E is 1959, F 1960, etc. This is the date the part was cast. They sometimes sit around for a week or two or even a month or two before assembly. Also post your engine serial, some on here have records and can get pretty close to the chassis serial. Don't confuse the engine serial with a part number. Part numbers are cast in, the engine serial is stamped somewhere near the top of the block, I forget the exact location.
