Super M Running Rough

Need a little help diagnosing a problem guys. I have a Super M and it use to run and idle with no problems. Well the other day we had a plow day and it would just randomly die, but it straightened itself out and had no problems the rest of the day. Saturday while I was driving it home it kept cutting out and the engine would act like it was starved for fuel so I pulled the sediment bowl and it was clean. Fired the tractor up drove for another mile and it started chugging. Then last night moving a hay rack around the barn yard it acted like it wanted to die and at quarter throttle it will idle for a while then just die and before it use to idle at low idle for hours. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

This does sound like a fuel issue. Two things that I would check are to make sure that the gas tank is in good shape and free of rust and scaling inside. Secondly it is very possible that something has made it through to the carb. YOu would need to pull the carb off and verify that the bowl is clean as well as all passages.

Possibly the vent hole in the gas cap has become partially plugged? Try running it with the removed.

Possibly a foreign object has found its way into the gas tank and is restricting the inlet?

How about the carburetor fuel inlet fitting screen?

Probably shouldn't rule out the possibility of a faulty electrical connection or failing ignition switch either.

While it COULD be an ignition issue (point gap set too close or a failing coil), the problem's most likely fuel starvation.

Remove the plug from the bottom of the carb bowl. You should get a continuous, solid stream of gas. If gas just dribbles out, check/clean the sediment bowl strainer; also the screen behind the carb fuel inlet fitting.

If that doesn't do it, drop the bowl and clean out the float valve. Also check the bottom of the bowl for a build-up of rust, dirt, etc. blocking the main metering jet. If it's at all dirty inside then it's time for a complete tear-down, cleaning and rebuild of the carburetor.

sounds like you have a sticky needle valve try running a liter of oil in the gas and see if that fixes it . I have several tractors that will do what you are describing and some oil in the gas to give some lubrication works wonders . also lubricates the valves. 2 of these tractors have been that way from when they were brand new.
