Question for Keith-OR

In reading through the archives I found where you posted a picture of what you made to pull and install the front pulley on an engine I couldn’t find it in the pictures do you still have it? Right after Thanksgiving I’m going to pull my supper C apart and try and stop that oil leak. It has gotten to be to embarrassing to take it anywhere for it keeps marking it spot (big spot) Thank you
Larry

Use a large bearing puller and place it behine the puller and then use a finger puller to pull it off. I have done two this way. One pulled hard all the way off.

Sorry for the typos in my last message. I meant to say use a large bearing puller and place it behind the pulley. Then use a 3 finger puller and pull from the back of the bearing puller. I have seen a couple of homemade tools but they basically do the same thing.

Keith almost never posts any more. The way I do them is U cut a U in 2 pieces of 1/2 steel plate and then drill 4 bolt holes in that so as to slop both pieces under the pulley and that in turn makes a place to put a gear puller so you do not break the pulley

Larry, what the pictures will show is like Old noted in his reply with the addition of a couple of lengths of 3/4" all thread with hex nuts on each end between the two pieces so a hydraulic jack can be fitted between those two 1/2" steel pieces and the front of the crankshaft. Then use something between the front of the crankshaft (smaller then the hole in the pulley like a socket) and use the hydraulic jack to pull the pulley off the crankshaft. The piece that fits in behind the pulley requires the U cut slot as noted by Old so the applied force is against the pulley hub and not the pulley flanges as it will break if pulled on the flanges. To reinstall the pulley after replacing the front seal just heat it in an oven so it will expand slightly and it should slip back over the crank if done quickly. Keith's tool doesn't have any reinstallation features. Hope this helps, Hal.

I have that puller of Keith's on the computer somewhere. Haven't located it. Here's BigDog's
damper puller for his Cub. You would need to measure the hub on your damper pulley and use a split separator behind the pulley. You can either use a hydraulic ram or botle jack if it will work in the horizontal position. Hal
